"Khan of Khans" Tournament at RQ Glorantha Con Down Under IV

Susan O'Brien, Chaosium's board games line editor, will be attending RuneQuest Glorantha Con Down Under IV. Susan created the two-time Gold ENnie awarding game Khan of Khans with legendary German designer Reiner Knizia, and "Grand Shaman of Games" Greg Stafford.

In 'Khan of Khans' each play is khans of the great tribes of Prax with unique special abilities. In spring, as the grasses become green and the rivers swell, the khans lead raiders into the rich lands of Dragon Pass, ripe for plunder.

The High Priestess has decreed whichever khan brings back the most cattle from Dragon Pass will be declared “Khan of Khans”, the greatest warlord of the Wastelands!

(The Sanskrit word for war literally means "a desire for more cows")

Players take turns to raid different locations, drawing cards from 10 different stacks. The player with the most cows—including those in corrals and in their herd—at the end of the game is the winner and acclaimed "Khan of Khans".

Susan will be running tutorial on the game throughout the Con, will have copies of the game to sell (and sign), and there will be a grand knock-out tournament to see who is the "Khan of Khans"!

Not just RuneQuest!

We all know how excellent 'RuneQuest Roleplaying in Glorantha' is, and that's why we have a Convention dedicated to playing this awesome game.

But it is not surprising to discover that there are other awesome roleplaying games that that will be run at RuneQuest Glorantha Con Down Under IV!

Gary Fay, contributing author to the supplements "Blood & Lust" (1991), and "The Spectre King" (1992), will be running two sessions of King Arthur Pendragon.

Dave Cake, rules consultant for Hero Wars, well-known convention panelist, and expert of matters pertaining to Glorantha and sorcery, will be running two sessions of Glorantha 13th Age.

and Lev Lafayette, who is just this guy, will be running two sessions of HeroQuest Glorantha.

RuneQuest. Pendragon, 13th Age, and HeroQuest game sessions! All this and more is available if you register!

Glorantha: The Gods War

Just announced: there will be sessions of Glorantha: The Gods War at RuneQuest Glorantha Con Down Under!

"Glorantha: The Gods War is a competitive strategy game in which 3 or 4 players (3 to 8 players with the Empires expansion) summon units (minions, heroes, lesser gods and usually one greater god); construct buildings (usually Shrines, Temples, and Ziggurats) and clash in mortal combat. The players seek to build their own strength and destroy their enemies by killing their enemies' units and capturing and destroying their enemies' buildings, to achieve Heroquests and thus earn gifts, and to earn runes with unique effects. Each empire has its own, and different, unique ability, weakness, greater god ability, units, Heroquests and gifts. For example, the Darkness empire features trolls, the Mistress (Cragspider), shades, and the Hellmother (Kyger Litor), while the Sky empire has archers, the Emperor, phoenixes, and the Sun God (Yelm). These are not just the same units with different names, but also have different abilities, as do their buildings. Chaos has both different buildings, three greater gods (the Unholy Trio) and a different agenda to the other empires. The game has a world-shattering "mythic" feel to it rather than a “fantasy adventure” sensation."

Of Badges and Bags

Badges and Registration

Producing badges for the Con takes time. So we prefer registrations to be earlier rather than at the last minute.

Daniel Tosello is an awesome badge-maker, but he doesn't scale.

So please, register and pay asap.

Remember how great our badges are!

Swag Bags

Con attendees also get a swag bag, to take their swag home!

A large 130gsm calico bag with bottom gusset and two handles.

Bag: 390mmL x 425mmH
Handle Length: 400mmL
Side & Bottom Gussets: Approx. 120mmL

History of Peloria

And there's even another boardgame event for the Con!

Keith Nellist has done a variant of Lewis Pulsipher's classic historical
boardgame Britannia, but set in Peloria!

He'll be running a 4-hour session for 4 players, but I'm sure if we ask
him really nicely, we might get a second one.

An early "designer's notes" of the game was published in Rule One magazine.

"Fiery the angels fell; deep thunder rolled around their shores"

Well, the RQG Down Under team made a start on making our badges this weekend and the 3D printer caught on fire!

New parts will take at least a month to source from the manufacturer in the United States.

So, making hay while the crossing the bridge when we come to it (and other mixed metaphors), we can extend our "if you register you can get a badge" deadline.

How? By adopting Plan B!

Plan B is to hire a good ol' fashioned badgemaker and make the badges with that.

Not as fancy of course, but it does come with one additional benefit - attendees can make their own badges at the Con! Print out your favourite character or image from a RuneQuest or Glorantha source, for example, and make your own badge.

Here's a video on how to use the machine.

Auction and Sales

Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th from 10:00 to 17:00 is RuneQuest Glorantha Con Down Under!

There will be an auction of many RuneQuest and Glorantha related material.

Including a copy of Glorantha : The Gods War, still in shrinkwrap with the Empires supplement!

(Just to mention in advance the reserve for this is $200 - which is really cheap!)

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/164702/glorantha-gods-war

How does this work?

* The seller lists an item (open to all attendees of the Con) and sets a reserve.
* There are two auctions at the Con, 12:00 to 12.30 on the Saturday and on the Sunday.
* If the item does not sell at the auction you can still get it at the reserve price afterwards.
* It is only for items that are RuneQuest and Glorantha related.

There is *also* a second-hand stall which has fixed prices.

* This is for any game system, and setting.
* Only members of the RPG Review Cooperative, Inc., can put items up (it's a membership service)
* It will run throughout Saturday and Sunday

Chaosium will also be present at the Convention and you can bet they'll have more than a few things on offer as well from their vast line of goods, including RuneQuest, HeroQuest, Call of Cthulhu, Basic Role Playing and others!

Plus there is a silent, pre-conference auction, open to anyone.

A set of super-rare RuneQuest and Glorantha books;

* RuneQuest Gods of Glorantha Volume I, GenCon 2019 Preview Edition (22/40)
* RuneQuest Gods of Glorantha Volume II, GenCon 2019 Preview Edition (22/40)
* RuneQuest The Red Book of Magic, GenCon 2019 Preview Edition
