If Countermagic doesn't work, then Dismiss Magic won't work either. Too easy. If they really, really want to get the character back, then some kind of epic quest is in order to retrieve the magical components for a ritual to reverse the petrification, followed by a good old-fashioned Resurrection spell to bring back the dead spirit.<br>
