I agree with most of what has been written here in terms of combat, but
would also mention the following situation:
The character is a good swimmer, has no armour enc (Stripped to loincloth
or such) and is using a thrusting weapon such as a dagger. In my opinion
if the character had thought to do this most of the resistance penalties
etc would not apply, or would apply to a lesser degree.
Sorry, no comment re the magic, I suppose one would get a mouthful of
water if one were to try talk:)
