Tom (and list)

> Shall we also discuss Stormbringer and/or Elric?

Depends - if we're discussing all games with some degree of derivation from
RuneQuest 1 then yes - as well as Other Suns (previously discussed here),
Call of Cthulhu, Worlds Beyond etc... If we are going to tightly focus on
specifically RuneQuest then we have to be precise about what we mean by RQ:
and whilst I can see RQI/II/III making sense, there are sufficient
differences between those three variations of RQ and say RQIV:AiG or MRQ
that the latter two games probably shouldn't be included (and neither
should all the rest of Chaosium's BRP/RQ related games, nor Others Suns,
Mythworld, Worlds beyond etc)...

In the end, I think hard and fast definitions are going to be tricky to
formulate and a pain to police.

In general my assessment would be that this list has always discussed the
RQ family of derived games, but with the emphasis firmly on the rules, and
mostly focused on RQII/III. That remit quite clearly DOES include the new
BRP (as, with the right options selected, it is a near carbon copy of
RQIII), and shouldn't be hostile to the odd mention of other BRP related
RPG's _where their rules content is relevant_. MRQ is (*grits teeth*)
clearly as on topic as the _rules_ of RQIV:AiG or the new BRP; it's simply
another rule set directly "related" to RQII/III. But Elric, Hawkmoon,
Slaine, Call of Cthulhu etc _as settings_ are off topic (in the sense that
this ISN'T a list about discussing settings, but rules), but if their
_rules_ content is interesting, they clearly are. Likewise Pete's Rome,
Jason's Interplanetary, Charles' Fracture Hopes or Gwenthia are only
relevant in the context of rules discussion here.

Does that seem reasonable?

Cheers,

Nick Middleton
