It's you. In real life the scimitar was used primarily as a thrusting weapon, despite what you might see in Hollywood. As such, RQ got it right when they made it an impaling weapon. A falchion, the curved sword you saw in Indiana Jones, is different from a scimitar in that it was heavier and had more surface area on the blade and was indeed designed to slash. But a scimitar's curvedness was actually helpful to curve around shields and parries and thrust into an opponent.
