Hi Andrew, Lev, Michael and Rodney,
Introducing the Kids on Bikes ....
Please add more, this is just me riffing on what I remembered from
Character Generation.

*Agnus [Surname] (Andrew's Character)*
8 year old kid
Adored by most of the towns folk [for a reason - what was it?]
Little sister of Angus [Surname] (Lev's Character)
Lost parents to a car crash - was in the car at the time, but was too young
to remember it and made a full recovery.
Not a strong swimmer - friends with Will Shorten who rescued you from the
river
[What was the link to Greg (Rodney's Character)]

*Angus [Surname] (Lev's Character)*
14 yo - bright kid at school with a responsible job at the Co-op.  He is
trusted with till reconciliation and lock up shop duties, but rarely gets
to enjoy being a teen.
[Lev, can we make Angus 15 or 16, to create a bit of age difference between
him and the others?]
He is protective of his little sister - and bottles up the resentment that
he must be parent to both of them now.  He's become quite good at telling
the Department of Social Security and Child protective services what they
need to hear on the infrequent times they come sniffing around.
Angus is haunted by the memories of the day his parents died.
Part of those memories include the presence of some unknown thing coming
toward them - but Angus dismisses this because it doesn't make sense.
He has a scar on his chest from the accident.
[Why were the family making the car trip on the night of the crash?]

He only knows Greg and Will as friends of Agnus, but they seem like good
people that keep her happy.

*Greg [Surname] (Rodney's Character)*
Doesn't like sport, would rather spend time talking to cats than people,
Greg's parent's wonder where they went wrong with this weird one.
His only real friend seems to be Will - a kid from the wrong side of the
river, who indulges his crazy belief that animals talk to people in our
dreams.
I tell you, that Will is going to drag our Greg into trouble, and who knows
where  it will end up?   I'll tell you where .... kids like Will end end up
in jail and he'll drag our Greg with him.

*Will Shorten (Michael's Character)*
A 10 yo Bunurong boy who is learning on country, is bored in class and is
known to the local cop (Sgt Stephens) for wagging school.
Lives out of town in the caravan park with his uncle Ernie.
He loves the outdoors and showing people special places.  A few months ago
he was rough playing with Agnus near the river and pushed her in, not
knowing she was not a strong swimmer.   He dived in and rescued her and now
they are very close friends.
Recently he intervened in a fight between a fox and a cat - one of the many
cats Greg [Surname] is friends with.


*The car crash that killed Agnus and Angus' parents.*
The crash occurred on the night of 2 October 1980 on a straight treelined
section of Involoch Road [the Avenue of Honour].
The vehicle run off road following a loss of driver control.  [Dad name]
lost control of the car when he swerved to avoid Ernie Shorten (Will
Shorten's uncle) who was walking on the road at night.
The police report notes that Ernie was assumed to be drunk at the time* -
and that the Holden Belmont was not roadworthy.

[Dad's name] died on site from internal abdominal bleeding,
[Mum's name] was transferred to Wonthaggi Hospital was stabilised in ICU
but died three days later of a brain bleed.
Angus sustained chest injuries and a hemothorax but made a full recovery
after emergency intubation and a day of observation.
Agnus sustained a minor concussion and was discharged after overnight
observation. Other than poor recollection of the events of the night Agnus
has no lasting injuries resulting from the crash.
Ernie sustained a wrist fracture caused by a fall and was discharged with
pain relief by the hospital after a few hours.

* Ernie wasn't drunk,  but the garbled account of 'hunting the Yowie'
during the police interview lead the country cops to make this assumption.

Rumours and misreporting of this crash by the Wonthaggi Sentinel resulted
in few weeks of racial tension - fortunately this dissipated after a few
weeks without further incident.   (but gave Will an unpleasant life lesson
about how cops, and 'townies' view Aboriginal people).
