Conan
One of the games I might run is Conan. See if this sounds interesting:

Forget what you think you know. In Howard?s tales Conan rarely wears a loin-cloth and prefers swordswomen at his side to dancing girls at his feet. A detailed fantasy world created decades before Tolkien. A d20 game heavily modified to emulate the bloodthirsty swordplay, corrupting sorcery, and varied cultures of the Hyborian Age. Creatures of human or near-human intelligence are feared man-apes or supernatural monsters. Parties do not have to fill all the traditional roles; a party can be made up of characters of one class or have a mix of classes including barbarians, nobles, soldiers, scholars, and pirates.

Differences from D&D: Enabling heroic deeds in a bloody world of grim sorcery
Conan is sword and sorcery rather than the
heroic fantasy of D&D. In Conan bloodshed is common, monsters truly terrifying and magic provides curses rather than healing. Conan RPG changes several rules to emulate the genre and promote PC survival in a dangerous world.

Combat need not be on a grid

Party Composition: Conan The RPG classes are tougher and more self-sufficient than D&D characters. The CR system with its formulae has also been scrapped. Therefore in this game a good mix of classes is not necessary.

Cross-Class Skills: extra ranks from intelligence can be spent on cross class skills without penalty.

Barbarian: same only in name to the D&D class. Built around a fast mobile combat style.

Multi-classing: can be done without penalty as long as class choices are supported by previously role-played events. Favored Classes provide bonus feats rather than the usual benefits

Trained only skills: these can actually be used by unskilled
characters but any roll over 10 is treated as 10

Armor does not add to Defense, but provides damage resistance instead. This allows heroes and villains to wade through battles to face off and forces players to think tactically.

Finesse: there is no finesse feat, you don?t need a feat to use finesse fighting, just a finesse weapon. Finesse fighting deals with armor differently

Left for dead: an important last resort in a world without magical healing or resurrection.

Fate points: used for ?left for dead? but has other uses too.

Combat Maneuvers: these are much like Special Attacks in the D&D PHB but much cooler. They do not directly cost feats but do have prerequisites. Examples include ?to the hilt?, ?decapitating slash? and ?pantherish twist?, very Conan.

_______________________________________________
Churchofgaming mailing list
<A href="mailto:Churchofgaming@rpgreview.net"
