This Sunday we are playing Diaspora Hard SF with FATE. Diaspora is very Hard SF, i.e. the laws of physics are not broken and the implausible is avoided. There is no artificial gravity, no force swords, no reactionless space drives, no psionics, no humanoid aliens etc. FATE is a narrative rpg system focused on telling stories and giving players a chance to affect thje storytelling. That said Diaspora can handle tactical combat in spacecraft or with rifles. We'll make you a character during the Q&A phase at the start of the session. If you start thinking about ideas for your character now it would really help. Every character has a home system pick one from the attached camapign info. Every character begins the game knowing two other characters (whoever volunteers on the day). These meetings influence your phases Every character has five phases that sketch out there life prior to the start of the game. As other characters influence two of these phases you can't finalise them before Sunday but it would help to have a few ideas. The phases are: phase one: growing up This phase should establish the character's home system and maybe some information about his family and upbringing. phase two: starting out This phase describes the character picking a direction in life. It might be a career choice or an education or it might be a circumstance forced upon him, but it should be a formative choice that establishes who the character has decided he will be. phase three: moment of crisis Now players will write a brief description of an event that created change in the character-something that the character would talk about later (maybe to his pals around drinks, maybe only to his wife, maybe to himself while in his sleep with the cold sweats and the voices and the screaming). The moment of crisis must reference another character phase four: sidetracked This phase is about events out of your control. As with life, not everything goes as planned, and it may be that your life has taken an unexpected turn. This phase revisits the story of another characters moment-of-crisis event from your character's perspective. phase five: on your own In the final phase, write briefly about where the character is now. What are his immediate needs and goals? What is he doing to get by in a hostile universe? It'd be great if your phase five placed you on the backwater world of Exoarctica in the Faith/Reason system. <-----Original Message-----> >From: Redmond Hamlett [redmond.hamlett at gmail.com] >Sent: 11/3/2011 1:12:15 PM >To: churchofgaming at rpgreview.net >Subject: Re: [Churchofgaming] Churchofgaming Digest, Vol 39, Issue 6 > >Hi gang, > > >Still on this Sunday? Will be my first GMing attempt in over 10 years. I am still looking for at least two other EOIs, but here it is: Dark Heresy is a journey into the darkness of the 41st millennium. You are an acolyte working in service of the Inquisition of the Calaxian Sector, standing on the front line of a great and secret war; to root out the evils against the Empire of Man. You will face witches, heretics and demons, and your very survival will be amidst a web of conspiracy and betrayal. First adventure takes the acolytes to barbaric Iocanthos to investigate the reported phenomena at the remote settlement 'Stern Hope'. RPG system using percentages against PC characteristics to test skill / combat outcomes. Sci-Fi Action / Horror Adventure with all manner of high and low tech stuff, as well as ethereal and otherworldly features. DH has a running Fate, Corruption and Insanity Point tracker which will invariably affect your characters along the way. One map sheet THese should get us finished before the bell. OK?

The interesting spin is that the PCs will be made up of both >>NATO and
