Starting at 2pm sharp (war doesn't wait for anyone) Session 21: All's Fair in Love and War ------------------------------------- Real date: Sunday, November 1st, 2015 Game date (Start): Corintine Day 30 1688 Game date (End): Octavis Day 15 1688 A wedding is planned with but a mere six week's notice. The Drachen Cathedral witha capacity of 2500 is booked, albeit the Vaticine priest Father Weissels expressing some concern with the wedding of a philosophical dystheist and a potential Montaigne heretic. Nevertheless, affairs of state do take priority and invitations are sent to the Iron Princes of Fischler, Hainzl, Heilgrund, P?sen, Sieger, Wische, along with the Montaigne Earldom, the Nibelungen, along with an immediate friends and family of one hundred each for the bride (including Hans of course, and Alice's sisters as bride maid's)and groom, and a reception at The Watchturm. Wilma Probst, accepting this event is an official state event, conducts most of the organising to the best of her ability. There are costs, enormous costs, but there is also a rise in popularity for the Eisenfurst and much commerce in the city. Offizer Axel organises the troops in preparation for the route, and Lord Bryon is attentive to the finances. But just a week before the wedding there is less than expected number of outside guests arriving. It becomes very clear that P?sen and Heilgrund are attending with far more guests that they have been allocated. Indeed, they both seem to be converging on Freiburg with a sizeable army. Under Bryon's editorial, a passionate plea under the famous heading "Liberty or Death" is presented. Many Freiburg residents join Civil Improvement Association (militia section), the Guard, or the Watchunde - depending on their military experience. As many of the former members of the Bryon-Drachenheim mercenary company are returned to active service. Noticeably at this stage it seems that Ehrhart is nowhere to be found, and his militia have abandoned their positions. There is debate of what to do about residents who wish to leave the city; eventually it becomes clear that nothing is to be gained by entrapping them. Bryon issues an editorial in the Gazette expressing the need for a command economy in this state of emergency. An attempt at negotiations with the leaders of the two armies. P?sen demands the unconditional surrender of the city citing the danger to all of Eisen's security by the proposed marriage to a Montaigne noblewoman, but Stefan Heilgrund - with the smaller force - expresses more interest in diplomacy. Eventually an agreement is hammered out where, for the price of one thousand units of raw dracheneisen, his force will serve in alliance with the Freiburg defense. Overall, a respectable force is put together. As the local military leaders propose a defensive perimeter around the centre of the city several points are noted for potential fortification. Intelligence estimates that the two sides can bring forty thousand troops each to the fray, although P?sen does have the advantage of artillery. Heilgrund is allocated ten thousand troops to the mansions. Led by Dietrich Proust, Master Knight of the Rose and Cross, Lord Bryon another ten thousand are placed at the nor'eastern ridgeline. Kelby Lorbing, leader of the Watchhunde, holds six thousand in the Merchant's Quarter. In the Stein itself, Nicklas Trague and Lady Drachenheim hold some eight thousand troops. Two thousand are kept in the barracks as a reserve with Vaysa Wilheim, Captain of the Guard, taking the leadership; and scattered among the streets Offizer Axel Maximillan of the Civic Improvement Association, has two thousand urban soldiers. The stage is set for P?sen to advance on the city. At this point, a message is received by Dr. Serijo from the butler, Armin Fauser. A dragon egg has hatched. -- Lev Lafayette, BA (Hons), GradCertTerAdEd (Murdoch), GradCertPM, MBA (Tech Mngmnt) (Chifley) mobile: 0432 255 208 RFC 1855 Netiquette Guidelines http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt http://www.quicksales.com.au/shop/RPG-Review.aspx From usekh at usekh.com Thu Nov 19 00:00:22 2015 From: usekh at usekh.com (Lachlan) Date: Thu, 19 Nov 2015 11:00:22 +1100 Subject: [7thseafreiburg] Thanks and next session Message-ID: <564D1116.1080800@usekh.com> I would like to again thank Lev for running it, Mike for giving me a lift in each fortnight and everyone else for being part of it. Having been a big 7th Sea fan for ages it was great to finally play it. As for what next, having skimmed bits of Skyrealms of Jorune, and working through the Eclipse Phase books I think I prefer the latter, seems much more interesting (and easier to get the rules for). But will go with the majority.
